I believe in eating real food that is made with clean ingredients, healthy and satisfying. In 2015, I started my blog, Krysten’s Kitchen, with the mission to share my years of research on healthy alternatives to everyday foods that I personally can no longer eat, as well as talk about the companies that make healthy foods that taste great! Health is more than just what you eat, it’s also what you put on your body, your lifestyle and the products you use in your home and on your body. I now am even more motivated to find and share clean & healthy beauty and food products. In 2018 I won ShiftCon’s Rising Star award for my blog, and in 2019 I was invited to DC to “hit the Hill” with the Organic Trade Association and lobby for the Organic Industry!

Alt Protein Presents: 19 of the Best Keto Blogs for 2019

Alt Proteins

“Be Real. Eat Real” is Krysten’s Kitchen blog motto. Krysten Dornik is a recipe developer, but she is also a skillful nutrition blogger who specializes in food allergy-friendly ideas. She has created both a blog and a YouTube channel where she shares her recipes, tips, and insights with her followers. She founded Krysten’s Kitchen back in 2015 with the purpose of sharing her personal experience and expertise on healthy food alternatives. She has struggled with food allergies for years, so she has researched a lot of options and even companies that claim they sell healthy yet delicious foods.

For starters, Krysten is allergic to both yeast and cane sugar, so she had to find ways to eat well without affecting her health. Together with her husband, Krysten avoids processed foods, corn, soy, sugar, wheat, dairy, and others. They do indulge in an occasional treat. Despite the fact that she’s a foodie, she tries her best to stick to a healthy and well-balanced diet.

On her YouTube channel, you will find a lot of useful things, and not all of them are food-related. Some videos will teach you how to prevent hair loss, but there are also a lot of product reviews. The blog, on the other hand, is much more complex and well-structured. I simply love the recipes section where you can find numerous interesting recipes, and they are all grouped into several categories: breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, soups, snacks, low-carb, appetizers, gluten-free, vegan, and even paleo. Krysten’s Kitchen is definitely a keto blog that’s worth considering.

Raspberry Chia Seed Jam

Mother's Market

February 14, 2019

There is nothing like homemade jam. My great aunt Anna made strawberry jam when I was a kid, and I can still remember the taste. I loved a piece of toast with a little butter and a heaping spoonful of her jam!

Most jams, of course, contain lots of sugar. Fruit is already sweet, so I don’t see the need for excessive amounts of sugar. This recipe is very easy to make, and can easily be customized to fit your tastebuds. You can add a little maple syrup to sweeten it or totally omit the maple syrup.

Use this raspberry chia seed jam on toast, smoothies, pancakes, waffles, chia seed pudding, or even add it to this Raspberry Twix Bar recipe! Yes, I said TWIX!

There was so much wellness knowledge under one roof, and I learned a lot. I also had the chance to network with tons of brands, learn about new products on the market, but my favorite part of any event is running into familiar faces. If you stay in any industry long enough, you'll realize it isn't that big after all. While I was at the SoCal Wellness event, I bumped into a couple of my favorite gals, Krysten from Krysten's Kitchen and Saarah of Beauty Momme. Over the past year our working relationship has blossomed into a lovely friendship. Being in the blogging space opens so many doors to a wonderful community!

75 Prominent Influencers Share Their Top Advice on How To Become An Influencer

Medium

April 09, 2018

Krysten Dornik is a food blogger specializing in allergy-friendly recipes, product reviews and all around eating real food. Krysten launched her blog, Krysten’s Kitchen, with the mission to share her years of research on healthy alternatives to everyday foods that she can no longer eat, as well as talk about the companies that make healthy foods that taste great! In 2018 she won ShiftCon’s Rising Star award, a peer voted award for influencers in the Natural Products Industry.

My Top Tips To Become An Influencer

1) Be consistent, even when you are just starting out because you are laying down the foundation of your blog, social media or youtube for the future. It takes time but be consistent with your content.

2) Don’t be afraid to show your face or get in front of the camera (Instagram stories, youtube videos). If you are only showing photos or videos of your subject (food, fashion, makeup products etc) then you are missing out on a key aspect to being an influencer. Once you get your face in front of the camera, people will be able to connect with you on a whole new level. Brands will also be able to put a face to a name.

3) Work with other influencers and brands to collaborate on content, blogs and projects. Don’t be afraid of working with others. It’s a great way to get your name out there with cross promotion.

4) Engage with your audience. Ask questions and reply to their answers. Take the time to reply to their comments, tweets and direct messages as much as you can. Your audience will appreciate the time you take to reply to them.

5) Be yourself. Let people see the real you. They will follow you, and engage with you because they know you and trust you. Be authentically you.

What's Your Favorite Cake Flavor?

Nemo's Bakery

September 22, 2017

A simple, rich chocolate cake is always going to be devoured, but bakers are also experimenting with unique twists and combinations, like orange chocolate, lavender chocolate, ginger-lime chocolate, and more. Another example is from Krysten Dornik, a food blogger specializing in allergy-friendly recipes. She says: “My favorite cake flavor is definitely chocolate, but not just any chocolate. I like to make my chocolate cakes using coffee or espresso for the liquid instead of water. It brings out the chocolate flavor and the overall chocolate flavor is much richer. Most people can’t pinpoint that the cake is made using coffee but can tell that the chocolate cake is richer than what they are used to. My grandmother taught me to do this when I was a little girl, and now I never make a chocolate cake without using coffee.”

Pumpkin Spice: 9 Outrageous Tweets Haters Will Love

September 19, 2017

For some of you, ubiquitous pumpkin spice is a taste never quite acquired, which means it's going to be a long couple of months. Pumpkin spice is for pies and the occasional loaf of bread. Let's be clear about that. Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte was the gateway drug for this craze, and now pumpkin spice is showing up in Cheerios, vodka and even in chicken sausage. Name your poison, and pumpkin spice is probably in there.

“Freeze fresh herbs in ice cube trays with some chicken broth. Make your own chicken stock. My yiayia (Greek for grandmother) always had a stockpot going, making chicken broth at all hours of the day. She would add leftover onion scraps, celery stalks, and cloves of garlic for flavor.”

Krysten Dornik, who runs the food blog Krysten’s Kitchen, likes to turn her cucumbers into a fun meal.

“I love to ‘zoodle’ a cucumber for a healthy take on pasta salad,” she says. “The cucumber holds up beautifully using a spiralizer and creates delicious crunchy veggie ‘noodles’ that you can add all kinds dressings, sauces or more veggies to. I make a traditional Greek salad with a twist by spiralizing the cucumbers, adding tomatoes, kalamata olives, red onions, oregano and Greek dressing.”

Top Tips for Picky Eaters

Delicious Living

May 01, 2017

Picky eaters come in all ages. My husband, Jeff, and I have been together for almost 12 years, and when we first met there were things that he wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot pole that he will gladly eat and cook today. He loved fast food but never ate or ordered dark leafy greens.

Twelve years ago, he wouldn’t eat things like spinach, Brussels sprouts, coconut, salmon or the amount of veggies that he eats today. He had a very plain diet that consisted of fast food combos and sodas. We believe he became a picky eater due to a combination of how his food was prepared (in a microwave or boiled), the lack of freshness of his veggies and, of course, the “texture thing” as he calls it.

Why Healthy Food Blogger Krysten from Krysten's Kitchen Loves Portion Perfect

Bentology

April 24, 2017

We want to thank our friend Krysten from Krysten's Kitchen for recently featuring our Portion Perfect products on her blog. In her post, she wrote about why she loves using our complete weight loss kit:

"This Portion Perfect Weight Loss Kit from Bentology is a great place to work on your portion size, but it does so much more than assist in portion control. It’s a lunchbox, too! It’s made right here in the USA, is food-safe, there’s no lead or BPA, phthalates or PVC, it’s dishwasher safe (top rack, of course) and has leak-resistant lids. It’s really handy to keep in the kitchen for when you need to pack yourself a lunch for school, the office, a fun day at the beach or even a magical day Disneyland. Side note: did you know you can bring your own food into Disneyland? Yup - it’s true! That makes it easier to enjoy the fun when you have food allergies or a strict diet."

6 Lessons You Can Learn From Cooking Shows

Vitalize with Vitacost

December 09, 2016

Food blogger Krysten Dornik says she loves cooking shows and even has picked up great recipe ideas from them, although she can’t eat many of the dishes they fix due to food allergies. What she doesn’t love, however, is how TV chefs pour on the salt.

“The amount of salt that all of these chefs use in their dishes is insane. It seems like they use one-fourth of a cup of table salt in each and every dish,” Dornik says. “People are eating too much salt as it is, and TV chefs have such an incredible platform to teach people that you can make a dish taste amazing without adding all the extra salt. Spices and fresh herbs can go a long way.”

Food blogger Krysten Dornik notes that dishes made popular thanks to certain diets or food allergies — zoodles (zucchini noodles), mashed cauliflower, and nut meal pie crusts — have become mainstream. “People with food allergies will make them because of the obvious reasons, but everyone else will make them too because they are ‘healthy’ and trendy,” she says. “Everyone wants to be healthy year-round, even during the holidays, so making mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes eliminates the unwanted carbs that everyone seems to be avoiding more than ever.”

Is It Possible To Raise Your Child Sugar-Free In A Sugary Society?

Honey Colony

October 27, 2016

Children, like adults, are less likely to crave desserts and treats if they are filled up with all around nutritious food (not just non-sugar carbohydrates). Vecchiarelli recommends making sure your child has had something healthy to eat and does not arrive hungry at gramma’s house, soccer practice, or social events.

“Always having celery and carrot sticks with hummus or almond butter will help them feel satiated and energized, which will limit their sweets intake,” says Vecchiarelli.

Krysten Dornik, a food blogger specializing in allergy-friendly recipes, agrees.

“Keep your child filled with good foods like organic fruits, vegetables, some meats along with water to keep them from feeling the urge to eat sweets,” Dornik says.
